Wildlife and Rural Crime Enforcement – Successful Prosecution
Greater Manchester Police remains committed to tackling rural crime and protecting landowners, wildlife, and local communities. In the early hours of Monday 6 January 2025, officers responded to a report from a local landowner in the Saddleworth area who believed individuals were actively poaching on private land. The landowner had installed additional security measures following previous incidents involving dead animals. On police attendance, four males were located and searched. Officers recovered an air rifle and bags containing approximately 30 dead pheasants nearby. All four individuals were charged with night poaching, with one also charged with trespass with an air weapon. They were later found guilty at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.
Jamshed Ali‑Ahmed, Bilal Majid, Omar Majid and Namard Amin, all of Manchester, were each ordered to pay £625 in fines and court costs. The air rifle used in the offence was seized and destroyed.
This outcome sends a clear message that rural crime, including poaching and illegal firearm use, will be investigated robustly and dealt with through the courts. If you have concerns about rural crime or suspicious activity, please report it to police. Your information helps us protect our countryside and communities.
